Mbappe to sue PSG for unpaid wages of upto €55m

Kylian Mbappé is heading to court as his long fight with former club Paris Saint-Germain continues. Even though he left PSG in the summer of 2024, the World Cup star says the club still owes him €55 million in unpaid wages. The case is now going to the labour court in Paris, with a final decision expected later. The hearing is set for November 17, 2025, at 1pm local time, with Mbappé returning to France for it. The case is unusual because the labour court normally doesn’t handle big, high-profile disputes like this. The usual first step, called “conciliation,” has been skipped because Mbappé wants his old short-term contract to be treated like a full, permanent contract. Lawyer Elie Dottelonde explained that Mbappé will present his arguments first, saying PSG didn’t follow the contract and did not pay his last three months’ salary or certain bonuses. PSG will then have to explain why they think they don’t owe him this money. Dottelonde says this kind of case has never happened before in the court’s history. Even though Mbappé finally gets his day in court, it may take “several months” before a decision is made. His lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, said in April 2025 that Mbappé is determined to stand up for his rights and for other players who face the same issues. Mbappé’s relationship with PSG collapsed in 2023, when he said he would not sign a new contract and planned to leave for free. He was dropped at the start of the 2023–24 season, but returned to the team after one game. PSG say he agreed to give up some money he was owed, but Mbappé’s team says that is not true and calls it “fantasy.” PSG, in return, say Mbappé’s version is a “fanciful tale.” Mbappé insists he is owed the full €55 million. A court order freezing that amount in PSG’s bank accounts was cancelled on May 26, 2025. Mbappé also withdrew his criminal complaint of psychological harassment, though an investigation was still active in mid-2025. The dispute also went through French football authorities, but they said they could not enforce any decision because another hearing was still pending in the Paris Judicial Court—a hearing that was supposed to take place in May but has now been postponed with no new date set.
